A (relatively) short ride from Nainital brought us to the Corbett Hideaway resort just north of Ramnagar on the edge of the Jim Corbett National Park and Tiger Reserve.

This is our own private cottage. By far the nicest accomodations to date.

Each of the cottages at the Corbett Hideaway is named after notable creature in Jim Corbett's life. The Panar Maneater was a black leopard which allegedly killed 400 people and was tracked and shot by Jim Corbett in 1910.

This is probably the most peaceful spot we ever saw a dog napping. Usually they'd sleep on the shoulder of a busy road with cars zipping by them, horns blaring and people walking over and around them. These guys are usually only awake at night.

The only beer on the menu, imported straight from Copenhagen. Fellow guests at the hotel were actually Danish and always had a bottle with dinner.

This night at the Corbett Hideaway we were treated with some Kumaoni ethnic music and dance.

Our guide spotted this Monitor LIzard on the side of this cliff despite his excellent camoflauge. The sharpness of our guide's eyes was unquestionable.

Corbett was India's first national park (originally named Hailey National Park). Now there are 96 national parks in all of India.

The chital was the most common creature we saw in the park.

This is a young "tusker", a bull elephant. He came out of the bush right in front of our jeep on the path we were on.

This guy wasn't very shy about posing for us.

Trying to capture the full majesty of the Banyan tree without a wide angle lens was impossible. Nevertheless, it's obvious why the Indians chose this as their national tree.

This monster is actually a termite ant hill. Most of them are 2 feet tall or more. I had to fight the urge to go kick one over.

This is the Muntjac or "barking deer". Unfortunately she wasn't feeling very vocal while we were there.
